Skizzy Mars - Tara

Skizzy Mar's took to the net a few minutes with his latest track Tara, which samples No Doubt's 90's classic Don't Speak. One of my favorite t-shirts of all-time was my light blue No Doubt t-shirt I got in 3rd grade. Loved wearing that thing, haha.

Apple now holding more cash than United States

Both parties spend [our] money like they're Teresa Giudice of The Real House Wives of New Jersey. The US Treasury Department recently stated that our country has an operating cash balance of roughly $73.7 billion. And Apple? $76.4 billion.
The United States government governs a rather large geographical area encompassing roughly 300 million people. Apple could be contained to a few giant warehouses and tall office buildings. Does that mean that in the event of catastrophic occurrence, at least in terms of liquid assets, Apple would have greater fiscal resources to allocate than would the United States government? I hope not. Grab the entire article here.

TheJourney Presents: b.FUNK - Playoff Mode (Mixtape)

Without further a due, TheJourney's stoked to world premiere b.FUNK's highly anticipated Mixtape Playoff Mode. b.FUNK first made noise earlier this year opening for Ice Cube. Since then, b.FUNK's been gaining recognition from New Jersey [their hometown] to the west coast and everywhere in between. Last week b.FUNK particpated in 52 Fest; An Eric LeGrande Benefit Concert. Pretty cool. Stream Playoff Mode via DatPiff and then download in it's entirety via DatPiff or Hulkshare.
We Just Don't Give Da FUNK, track 15, is "a banger like a Blake Griffin dunk".. can't believe b.FUNK took on [and absolutely killed] Em's classic I Just Don't Give A F*ck.

Portland Trail Blazers to honor Arvydas Sabonis on Aug. 18

My top three goes like this; 1) Reggie Miller [there's pictures of me as young as 7 rockin' an Indiana Pacers #31 jersey], 2) Arvydis Sabonis, and 3) Ray Allen [Jesus Shuttlesworth]. Sabonis was one of the greatest passing big man to ever pick up the rock.  If he would have made it to the league before both of his knees blew out [entered the nba at the age of 31], I truly believe Sabonis would have been a legend [as evident by his postering against David Robinson in the 1988 Summer Olympics]. Read the whole article on Sabas here.

G-Eazy - Make-Up Sex

| G-Eazy created this artwork & produced the beat. Pretty dope|

G-Eazy took to the net today with Make-Up Sex, the latest offering off his upcoming album Endless Summer. For good measure I included G-Eazy's third latest leak, Run, which originally world premiered here on TheJourney a few weeks back.

Aloe Blacc – I Need A Dollar Live (Video)

Aloe Blacc's backed by Mihalj “MIKI” Kekenj’s string quarter for his hit single I Need A Dollar. The soulful sounds of Aloe Blacc are something special. I'd love to see more artists in hip hop test the waters of performing live alongside string sets. The sound is incredibly dope.

Hoodie Allen - Leap Year (Mixtape)

Have been listening to this album while studying for the better half of the last 15 hours. Love the law school shoutout on Every Time You Go and the James Franco samples at the end of the aptly titled James Franco track. Leap Year's quite the quality mixtape considering Hoodie Allen has been on tour constantly in 2011.
I'll keep this post shorter than Chewy from Chelsea Lately as law school finals are throwing salt in my game, but check out a legit album review from our friends over at Pigeons & Planes.

Phil Ade - Coming Home

|"When the beat crack I make love to it and that's why they say I'm f*ckin dope"|
Phil Ade released one of the better albums of the year last week with A Different World. I'd be interested to see the bidding wars going on behind the scenes following the release of the album. Check out Coming Home, off A Different World, it's the kind of track that should make a rapper a household name. Much like Wale's More About Nothing Mixtape, I'm sure I'll be bumping A Different World for months and months to come.

Dylan Owen - Where I'm Supposed To Be Feat. Devin Arne + Interview

Dylan Owen dropped Where I'm Supposed To Be to the net today and was kind enough to sit down for an interview recently. Check it out below.

Dylan Owen - Where I'm Supposed To Be Feat. Devin Arne

What up Dylan!

Q: Where are you from originally? How'd you end up at Cornell?
Originally I'm from Orange County, New York. A sweet little place called Goshen. Cornell was the right college choice for me in a couple different ways, even though it might not seem like your typical hip-hop artist's path. Look at Kinetics and One Love!

Q:  At what point in your life did you seriously start pursuing your music career?
I started taking things seriously around the end of my junior year of high school, when I released How To Stay Young EP and started performing. Admittedly, though, I was always secretly just as serious as I am now.

Q:  You've just finished your freshman year at Cornell, ya? How do you manage doing the student thing and simultaneously thriving as an artist who's doing shows with the likes of Sam Adams and Mac Miller?
Being a student and an artist is awesome and really tough at the same time. Somebody once told me that there are three things you need in college, and you're going to have to choose two of them: schoolwork, sleep, and social life. Coping with adding music into that equation has some interesting results sometimes. I guess it's all a matter of perspective whether or not somebody has their priorities straight.. I'm dedicated to my music just as much as anything else on that list.

Q:  Would Dwight Schrute pass your Cornell entry exam [as seen in The Office]? Does Andy correctly persona the average Cornell graduate?
The Office rules, and Dwight could pass any challenge life throws at him. Andy is ridiculous.

Q: Your lyrics aren't all over-saturated punchlines and fabrications -- like what is so often found in mainstream hip hop -- you really seem to tell stories. Do you draw from personal experience?
I draw basically all of my lyrics from personal experiences. You could say it's nonfiction writing, that rhymes.

Q: Why is Postcards not on the radio? Seriously. Any plans to be working with Jesse Denaro in the near future?
Me and Jesse have actually been doing a little music together over the net while he's on tour with his band Von Wolfe up and down the east coast. I'm looking forward to getting an official track together with him in the near future.

Q: People really dig your instrumentals, do you produce your own tracks?
I don't produce my own tracks, although I've written a couple of the melodies here and there. I work closely with a few producers and on my upcoming project am going to have some new names featured. I especially work with Nico Marchese, largely responsible for Senioritis' sound, who is my music sidekick when I'm home. Check out Nico Marchese here, he kills it.

Q: Is there any new solo material that your currently working on that you can speak on? Any collaborative work?
Yes, although none of it has been officially announced, I've got a ton of good stuff in the works that's guaranteed to blow your brains out. Just kidding.... but for real. Some very original solo and collaborative work is coming soon, soon, soon.

Q: Appreciate you taking the time to get at us Dylon! Any parting words you'd like to say to your fans?
Thank you SO much for continuing support. Check me out on
           Twitter
           Facebook
           YouTube, and
           dylanowenmusic.com
Updates on the brand new material and everything I'm up to will be frequently posted on these sites. Until then, check out my debut full-length album Senioritis on iTunes! and rock on.

Childish Gambino performs new song live in San Diego (Video)

Who better to perform last night at The House of Blues in San Diego than the dude that made it cool to be a geek? Childish partook in the star-studded event that has come to be known as Comic-Con. The House of Blues in downtown San Diego is only a coupke blocks from Comic-Con. You can tell from the crowd interaction that this place was poppin. Gambino's performance is rumored to be a new track off Childish Gambino's upcoming album. Did you hear that Casey Anthony line?

52 Fest: An Eric LeGrand Benefit Concert

College Football fans are familiar with Rutger's favorite Scarlet Knight; Eric LeGrand. LeGrand suffered a severe spinal injury against Army Black Knights on October 16, 2010 while attempting to tackle a player from the opposing team. Doctors soon determined LeGrand to be paralyzed from the neck down.
It's been a slow process, but hard work pays off.  Legrand took to twitter last week to post two new pictures of him standing during physical therapy. Very cool.
b.FUNK, one of the dopest hip hop groups in existence, performed alongside Funk Master Flex at 52 Fest yesterday. If you were fortunate enough to be a part of the festivities, I'm sure you were in for a pretty cool show.

OnCue – Feel Tall

Some people pigeon-hole OnCue into solely the frat rap scene. Fine, but don't diminish dudes legitimacy. OnCue makes good music and Feel Tall adds to my suspicion that it's only a matter of time until OnCue blows up. Kinda got a sound similar to Chiddy Bang. If I was an artist manager w/ extra capital to spare, I'd definitely be recruiting OnCue.
OnCue kills every verse. On top of  that his chorus has had me stuck on this track for a few days now. The subtle drum pattern in the background [particularly the hi-hat] is really dope.

Kanye & Jay-Z’s Watch the Throne documentary (Video)

Watch The Throne documentary features among other things scenes from Jay-Z’s birthday party, Ye and Hova discussing hip hop at a Beyoncé photo shoot, and the recording of Watch The Throne itself. Also seen is a random cameo from Russell Crowe, as well as a few samples of the rhymes and beats from Watch the Throne, which to me was by far the coolest part of the documentary.
Considering every other YouTube link of the Watch The Throne documentary has been removed by UMG, it's likely this one will follow suit shortly. Ready. Set. Go.

Macklemore - Wings (Official Video)

Macklemore fans have been waiting on the Wings music video for sometime. One of those tracks that makes me re-examine my role in the consumer culture that is the 21st century. Fans helped to contribute towards the funding for the this video, which initially only needed $10,000 to create, but Macklemore's filthy fans were supportive enough to raise over $20,000 so that Zia Mohajerjasbi could more accurately recreate Mackmemore’s vision. Damn, I miss the Supersonics..

Not again... Presidential Candidate on Gay lifestyle: "It's part of Satan"

| Michele Bachmann; making moderate-minded religious folks cringe since at least 2004 |
Bachmann delivered quite the speech to the National Education Leadership Conference back in 2004. Very informative. Said Bachmann, "We need to have profound compassion for the people who are dealing with the very real issue of sexual dysfunction in their life, and sexual identity disorders. This is a very real issue. It's not funny, it's sad. Any of you who have members of your family that are in the [gay] lifestyle -- we have a member of our family that is. This is not funny. It's a very sad life. It's part of Satan, I think, to say this is gay. It's anything but gay." The ever-so-pleasant Bachmann went on to say "It leads to the personal enslavement of individuals because if you're involved in the gay and lesbian lifestyle, it's bondage. Personal bondage, personal despair, and personal enslavement. And that's why this is so dangerous."
There's too many young gay teems that have taken their own life because of people like Bachmann. Our generation can do so much better than this. Read the entire article here.

G-Eazy - Sherry

Did I hear The Oregon Ducks hometown of Eugene shouted out on Sherry? Yes sir.  G-Eazy is one correctly-marketed track away from being a household name. Endless Summer, coming soon...

Local law student courtroom bound, as victim

Agustin Peña, a fellow classmate of mine at California Western School of Law will stand in a San Diego Superior court room as victim tomorrow. Peña's 14-year-old brother was murdered by a local gang member who mistakenly took the 14-year-old for a rival. Read the entire article here
Peña will read from a prepared statement prior to the judge's sentence, "Your siblings, parents and the rest of your family will have to continue their lives while you spend yours in prison," Peña's statements reads. "You may think to yourself that resorting to minimal contact with your family sounds horrible.... But at least you get to see your family. At least they're still breathing and you know that they're OK."
Peña said expressing the pain he feels into words is nearly impossible, "Mainly because nothing truly reflects the emptiness in our house and in our hearts. It's a difficult task to manifest such a strong emotions into words because there aren't any that fully explain what we feel, especially the feeling on special occasions like birthdays and holidays. I feel worse for my sister because she was still young when this happened and at times needs to be reminded of who her older brother was. Though I take that upon myself, I shouldn't have to; Javy should be here to remind her himself."
Really puts all the day-to-day petty and trivial things I wine about in perspective.

b.FUNk - Playoff Mode (Video Premiere)

"With Every Dream there's a Journey that's attached to it". How dope would it be to get a blog and the artist to promote, market & distribute tickets online to fans for various shows around the country?  It'd be dope to get an unsigned band like b.FUNK, from New Jersey out to Southern California to do a string of medium-sized venue shows.... ah shit, maybe I'm just a dreamer. Atmosphere – The Last To Say (Video)

I respect so highly artists that use their position of influence positively. Atmosphere's latest single The Last To Say, off their new album Family Sign, finally gets some well deserved visual treatment. Everyone loves Atmosphere. If there was a hip hop hall of fame, Atmosphere would be inducted in on the first ballot.

"The iconic independent rap group Atmosphere releases a new video for their song “The Last To Say” off their latest album,The Family Sign. The video deals with the very serious and all too common subject of domestic violence. Victims of abuse include women, men and children, but all are affected by it’s wrath. Nearly three out of four of Americans personally know someone who has been a victim of domestic violence. On average more than three women and one man are murdered by their intimate partners in this country everyday. A refreshing departure from the typical rap video, “The Last To Say” advocates positive treatment of women and focuses on the struggle many victims face – how to escape the abuse in their home so it doesn’t continue to be passed down."

Below are Rollin, Racks remix, Sure Thing and Marvin's Room, four standout tracks off Sorry For The Wait, which is also available for download below.
As an extra, checkout Drake's Marvin's Room remix featuring Lil Wayne, it's slightly different from the version found on Sorry For The Wait.
