Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Otherside Remix Feat. Fences

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are putting out a plethora of new music and videos lately. Lucky us. Their new album's on the way. Their Wings video was released a few weeks back. It's epic. Their new song Can't Hold Us is holding it down on Itunes. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' latest video, Otherside Redux was directed by Jason Koenig, the same dude that brought us the video for My Oh My. Make sure you check out TheJourney's interview with Macklemore and all our posts on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis here. Macklemore is hip-hop.
Nearly a year ago, Otherside, a fan favorite off of the Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ VS EP, was remixed and released as part of their VS Redux project. During that span, and spurred on by a powerful fan-base who have long embraced Otherside (the song has over one-million plays one YouTube), Macklemore and Lewis felt compelled to deliver a worthy visual to accompany the already stirring narrative. Along with Macklemore and Lewis, the visual was shot in multiple locations by director and long time collaborator Jason Koenig (My Oh My). The song, remixed and now featuring Christopher Mansfield (Fences) on the chorus, chronicles Macklemore’s personal struggles with drug abuse and its glorification within the hip hop music he loves.

Cymarshall Law - Great Ones

CyMar pays homage to Stevie Wonder, Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan on the latest single from his upcoming album with Mr. Joeker, Hip Hop in the Soul 2, dropping October 4th. This isn't the first time Cymarshall's been on TheJourney, check out One Million Miles Away. Good music.

Cymarshall Law - Great Ones

Oddisee - Skipping Rocks

Oddisee's latest project, Rock Creek Park, will be out September 6. The album centers around the historic DC park. The first leak off Rock Creek ParkThe Carter Barron, was one of the sickest tracks of the summer. I could go on and on about how cool the drums are on The Carter Barron, but I'll spare ya. Skipping Rocks, like The Carter Barron, is a thing of beauty. Support Oddisee over at Mello Music Group.
Listening to the Black Byrd's Rock Creek Park inspired me to create an entire album around the park & my relationship with it. If the park were to have a soundtrack, what would it be? What does walking along the trails of the park sound like? What does driving on the narrow tree lined roads sound like? This album is my interpretation of Rock Creek Park through break beats, samples & live instrumentation.

On the water in San Diego

| My lanky *ss was too tall for the tiny boat |
Started school on Monday, but not before getting some much needed face-time in with the water on Sunday.

Timeflies Tuesday : Hurricane (Video)

Hurricane Irene's forecasts were initially apocalyptic. Got us all excited for nothin'.  As such, Timeflies turns to Bob Dylan for wisdom. Talk about a timeless sample. Look for Timeflies Tuesdays to be popping up on TheJourney weekly. Check out all our posts on Timeflies here. Hurricane Irene was another glaring example of why you should consider moving to the west coast.

Azad Right - I'll Be There (Official Video)

I'll Be Around, the first single off Azad Right's upcoming Mixtape gets the visual treatment. I'm going to go out on a limb and say I'll Be Around was shot in sunny Southern California. Always beautiful here on SoCal. Say what up to Azad Right on Facebook and grab his music here.

Theophilus London - Girls (Official Video)

Theophilus London's cinematic undertaking on Girls bugged me for some odd reason when it first premiered back in July, now I love everything about it. F*cks wrong with me? "She got drunk and showed the p*ssy on World Star," has been stuck in my head for weeks now.. Theophilus London's brand of hip-hop is unique, genre-bending, and serves as a breath of fresh air in the rap game. Check out all our posts on Theophilus London here.

Chris Faust – Looking Back Feat. Outasight (Official Video)

Chris Faust, the artist formerly known as Prince Print will be re-releasing FAUST to iTunes August 23rd (pre-order here). Looking Back is really good. TheJourney's a huge fan of Outasight. Obviously only an opinion... but, among rappers, Outasight's one of the better at crafting a catchy chorus. Looking Back, the song, starts @ about 2:35 in the video.

TheJourney Presents: Theo Martins - For Helena

Theo Martin's revealed For Helena's artwork last week. Now we have the much anticipated audio to match the already dope visuals. TheJourney is proud to World Premiere Theo Martins' For Helena. For Helena samples Foster The People's Helena and will precede the first single off Theo Martins' upcoming project. As usual, Theo Martins' kills it. Support Theo Martins. Check out every article TheJourney's ran on Theo Martins here.
"Letting go of the things, people and life I’ve known to embark into unknown. For Helena is the first song I recorded in Los Angeles. First single off of my new cassette tape dropping in a few weeks." - Theo Martins

The Oregon Ducks David Paulson (TE)

If there is one thing we know about the guys catching footballs this season, it’s that David Paulson brings a plethora of experience to a part of the offense people seem to be questioning. Some accolades from 2010: Honorable mention All-American, first team all Pac-10 and first team all Pac-10 academic. Not a bad year for the tight end, especially sharing time with the guy who tied Sammy Parker’s season and career receptions marks last year (Jeff Maehl).
This year, Paulson looks to have an even better season, named to the preseason watch list for the 2011 John Mackey award, presented every year to college’s top tight end. Paulson is a big target at 6’4” and 241lbs, but still moves pretty well for his size, clocking in at 4.89 in the 40 this spring. He’s not going to blow anyone away by his athleticism, but he’s going to catch every ball that comes near him and block like an O-lineman. This is a good guy to have on our side of the sidelines.

-- Jordan Shepherd

Jay-Z & Kanye West - Otis (Live @ The VMA's)

One of the better performances of the evening almost had another 'Lil Mama Incident' @ 1:50-205. Anyone else catch YMCMB's reaction right after The Throne performed Otis? Also, in case you missed it, Rick Ross confronts Kreashawn... well, kinda. It's a good PSA as to why ignorant white folks should refrain from using racist verbiage. Sony's really really really stupid for signing Kreayshawn, and at a rumored $1 million to boot. Don't believe me? Just last night, Kreayshawn got confronted by Rozay, her twitter account was hacked, then eventually banned, but not before Kreayshawn's phone number, as well as naked pictures -- reportedly to have been  taken when she was only 17 -- were leaked to the net. Oh ya, and she makes awful music. I got a sneaky suspicion Kreayshawn stans will be PM'ing me within the hour..

Skee-Town Stylee - Simply Dynamic x Feel So Good

At first, I read Skee-Town Stylee's name to say Skeet-Town Stylee. Awkward as F. Dope music though for sure. The musicality behind Skee-Town Stylee's sound is apparent from the onset. I found myself replaying both Simply Dynamic and Feel GoodSimply Dynamic sounds like Skee-Town Stylee summoned the classic rap group Do Or Die and Feel So Good was too clean not to post. Grab all of Skee-Town Stylee's music here

b.FUNK - We Just Don't Give Da FUNK

Word is b.FUNK serenaded Hurricane Irene early this morning as she touched down in New Jersey. I hear she's reckless, a real b*tch even... and she'd probably never admit it... but, I bet she liked what she heard. Travelling through my recent memory, I can't think of any other musicians that have ever taken on Eminem's classic I Just Don't Give A F*ck. You can guarantee b.FUNK's rendition is, "A banger like a Blake Griffin dunk." b.FUNK's Playoff Mode mixtape is one of the best mixtapes to come out in 2011. Have you downloaded it yet?

b.FUNK - We Just Don't Give Da FUNK

Beyonce's Pregnant

Jay-Z and Beyonce are on their way to birthing a baby billionaire. Congrats to the power couple. Their kid's about to embark on a one of a kind, all-inclusive, luxury-filled type of lifestyle. Lucky little feller. In related news, lawyers inform Lil Wayne that that would now constitute as 2 counts of kidnapping..

Rhymefest - Bullet and a Target Feat. Citizen Cope

I used to bump Citizen Cope steadily back in the day. Great music. Rhymefest's lyrics, encompassing all three verses, are nothing short of incredible. Sundays are notoriously slow when it comes to new music leaks, might as well highlight some older, yet still incredible, music.

THURZ - Hell's Angel (feat. BJ The Chicago Kid)

Hell's Angel is my favorite cut off THURZ solo debut, LA RIOT, available now on iTunes. So soulful, definitely worth the purchase.

Wildabeast - Make The World Stop Feat. Jelani

Make The World Stop is off Jelani and Wildabeast's experimental project Rising Shadows, which was written, recorded, and mixed, in its entirety, in just 8 hours right here on TheJourney via Ustream last Tuesday. Over 1,000 of you tuned in to watch Jelani and Wildabeast's craft their latest installment in the EP In A Day series, tentatively titled Rising Shadows. A huge S/O to Jelani for giving TheJourney the opportunity.

Theo Martins - For Helena (Artwork)

Really stoked to announce Theo Martins will be releasing his latest song, For Helena, next week, exclusively here on TheJourney. For Helena will precede the new single off Theo Martins' upcoming project. More info on the projects coming soon. Until then, hit Theo up on ImJustTheo.com, and check out all TheJourney's posts on the ever so talented Theo Martins here.

LSU QB and LB turn themselves in after arrest warrants issued

LSU's starting quarterback, Jordan Jefferson, and linebacker Joshua Johns, turned themselves in to police today after arrest warrants were issued for both players.  Both face felony battery charges. Neither player will suit up against Oregon, leaving LSU with their 2nd string quarterback, Jarrett Lee, a more traditional pocket passer. No word yet from LSU coach Les Miles on how this evolving situation might effect No. 4 LSU and their season opener against No. 3 Oregon on Sept. 3 in Arlington, Texas. The entire off-season's been a myriad of scandalous events. From LSU to Miami, Ohio State to my beloved Ducks, there's been way too many off the field issues in the news.

ESPN College GameDay 2011 Chip Kelly Commercial

If you didn't already know, Oregon's officially made it cool to use overly-colorful play calling signs. Can't help but think its a geniusly placed marketing tool masked as an innovative play calling device. Some random sh*t up on those placards. This years predictions? Pictures of Voodoo donuts, Bruce Jenner, and Lady Gaga's egg, among other things.

Hurricane Irene brings sharks to the streets of Puerto Rico (Video)

I was like, "A shark in the streets?" Sh*t just got real. East coast folks should really consider moving to the west coast. San Diego in particular. That's a big shark.

Young Hamm - Feel Me

Young Hamm's manager, currently a student at The University of Oregon, recently shot Young Hamm's music this way. Feel Me is off Young Hamm's Rope-A-Dope project. A sick flow accompanied by an otherwise flawless instrumental speaks to me. Enjoy.

Loyal to the end: Navy SEAL's devoted Dog guarding his coffin

Mr Tumilson, of San Diego, California, was one of 38 killed on August 6 when a rocket-propelled grenade took out a U.S. Chinook helicopter. His funeral was held on Friday in his hometown of Rockford, Iowa. Mr. Tumilson's best friend, a loyal Labrador retriever named Hawkey, pictured above, seen saying his last goodbyes by laying next to his fallen master. Thank you for your service. Sh*t breaks my heart to see..

Nike unveils The Oregon Duck uniforms for Sept. 3 opener vs. LSU

Minutes ago Nike unveiled the new uniforms the Ducks will wear on Sept. 3 vs. LSU. Pretty dope, eh? Check out everything Oregon Ducks on TheJourney.

LSU Starting QB's Apartment Searched by Cops

So much drama surrounding Oregon and LSU's upcoming September 3rd matchup at Cowboy Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Police searched LSU's starting quarterback, Jordan Jefferson's apartment yesterday. This comes on the heels of a bar fight allegedly involving LSU's O-line Chris Davenport, linebacker Josh Johns, receiver Jarvis Landry and quarterback Jordan Jefferson, which sent four folks to the hospital and left one unnamed party with three broken vertebrae. All four players were interviewed by the police, which was to be expected, but the apartment search, well that kinda came out of nowhere. ESPN's reporting that "several brown bags" were taken from Jefferson's apartment, as well as a swab of DNA. Jim Kleinpeter of The New Orleans Times Picayune is further reporting that Jordan Jefferson will likely be suspended for LSU's pre-season game against The Oregon Ducks.

Hona Costello & BeN GZ - Lost And Never Found (Artwork)

Hona Costello and BeN GZ's Lost And Never Found is coming soon..

ESPN College GameDay Live - Oregon v. LSU, Sept. 3

ESPN College Gameday loves The Oregon Ducks. I can't think of another team that Lee Corso and the crew have covered live more over the last few years than The Oregon Ducks. September 3rd's preseason game between #3 Oregon and #4 LSU has all kinds of national implications to it. Expect The Oregon Ducks to show up ready to play at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington Texas. 9 days til kickoff..

The Weeknd - Gone (Sango Remix)

Sango taps into Gone, off The Weeknd's latest project Thursday. I love the eerily dark sound Sango implored on the remix. A few weeks back, a colleague of mine at school confided in me that he'd never heard of The Weeknd. Don't be like him, check out all of The Weeknd's music here.

Lil Wayne - How To Love (Official Video)

Tunechi's back, this time with How To Love, the latest visuals off C4. Did Weezy's How To Love live up to your expectations? Check out all of TheJourney's posts on Lil Wayne here.

b.FUNK - The Underdogs (Official Video)

b.FUNK's The Underdogs gets the visual treatment it much deserves. TheJourney supports New Jersey's biggest movement; b.FUNK. These dudes make incredible music. The sky's the limit for these guys. If you're new to b.FUNK, go ahead and grab all their music here and say what up to b.FUNK on Facebook.

TheJourney Presents: VIBE - Take a Little Time (Video)

TheJourney's proud to present VIBE's acoustic rendition of their upcoming release Take A Little Time. Both Rossy and Cyoung are currently kickin it in Tuscon, Arizona, near the University of Arizona, while they work on their new album. Rossy's from Lake Oswego, Oregon, and Cyoung's from San Diego. Small world, as I grew up 5 minutes from Lake Oswego, and currently reside in the ever-so beautiful San Diego.
On a side note, although an avid Ducks fan, I miss Lute Olson's brand of basketball. The Airzona Wildcats men's basketball program was for many years, one of my favorites in all of sports. From Mike Bibby and Loren Woods to Salim Stoudamire [Portland native] and Channing Frye, the Wildcats were fun to watch. Particularly in the open court. Anyways, say what up to VIBE on facebook and check out every World Premiere that TheJourney's featured.

PJ Simas - Frick Park Market (Cover)

PJ Simas' Triple Threat was great. Did you download Triple Threat when it originally went viral earlier this year? If not, grab it here. Simas recently covered Mac's Frick Park Market, which incorporates Simas on the acoustic guitar and keyboard. Dope. Grab Mac's lyrics for Frick Park Market over at RapGenius.com.

The Airplane Boys - Gold Ribbons (Official Video)

"Are you the saaaame girl I used to know?" Pretty much can't get Gold Ribbons catchy chorus outta my head thanks to The Airplane Boys. Gold Ribbons really infectious. No joke, when I first saw dude, I thought he was some hybrid form of Johnny Polygon and Dumbfounded. High-five if you were thinking the same thing. Grab The Airplane Boys Where've' You Been Mixtape.

Jelani's going live at 1pm EST to create an 'EP in a day' with Wildabeast. Be here.

The Wild - Heart Attack (Official Video)

TheJourney spotlighted The Wild's Heart Attack some time back. I really dig New Zealand's most well known hip hop band. Their ability to meld hip hop alongside rock n roll is nothing short of dope. Like The Wild's Facebook page and demand some US show dates pronto. Great music.

Bad Meets Evil - Lighters Feat. Bruno Mars (Official Video)

Bad Meets Evil's Lighters is the latest track off Hell: The Sequel to get visual treatments. Royce has his first radio-friendly track with Lighters. It's nice to see Royce get the kind of national exposure, albeit long overdue, that he much deserves.

The Student Loan Bubble: Is a Bust Inevitable? Duh.

It's kinda the same story at any prestigious university you'll visit; "Right this way sir.. to your bright new future... now, can you just sign your soul, whoops, I mean name right here." Myself personally, I'll be $180,000 in debt when I graduate law school next year. It would be all good if this was twenty years ago, back when the American Dream still seemed achievable, but it's not. The prospects of landing a lucrative job in America are bleak. As bleak as I remember in my short 26 years here on earth.
Since the financial crisis of 2008, outstanding student debt has climbed from $440 billion to over $550 billion, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Our government, alongside the domestic banks and public/private universities are making back-room deals at the expense of America. Don't believe me? Contrast the student loan debt with every other major category of consumer debt, including mortgage debt, credit card debt, auto loans and home equity loans, all of which are lower today than they were in the fall of 2008.
Most of us have the same story; we can’t afford the ridiculously high 'tuition', so we borrow the money, and then keep our fingers crossed that we can land a job that can somehow pay back our newly acquired 6 figure debts. Realistically, worse days are before us. Between the Student Loan bubble, the imminent Social Security crisis, staggering unemployment rates and the continuing slumber of the stock market, just be happy that our student loan checks can still be used to purchase the sh*tty beer that we'll inevitably consume during beer pong rallies this Fall Term..

Th@ Kid - Jack The Ripper

Th@ Kid wastes little time in between projects. A new album drops bi-weekly it seems. Or is it weekly? Sh****t, I dunno, but I dig it. Th@ Kid went viral minutes ago with his latest album, RatLyfe. Grab RatLyfe and check out all of Th@ Kid's work. Producers with dope beats can submit their instrumentals to Th@ Kid for consideration at ElliotO@atplayentertainment.com. Now, put RatLyfe in your Ipod, get off facebook, and go get some sun you damn computer dweller!

MGK sets up flash mob; shuts down mall, then gets arrested (Video)

I saw MGK tweeting facebooking about a flash mob a few days ago. I didn't think it would create this kind of turnout. Boy was I wrong. Machine Gun Kelly pretty much shut down South Park Mall in Strongsville, OH, yesterday, only to be arrested minutes later. On a side note, the definition of facebooking should be inducted into the dictionary asap.
From a utilitarian standpoint,  the notoriety gained off the PR stunt vastly outweighs any [minimal negative] ramifications that'll stem from the arrest. And now you hate me forever for bringing up 'utility factors' on a Saturday morning. Your like, "wtf Crosby, stfu...smh." Ha. Summer's over b*tches, schools back in session.

Pmac - One (Official Video)

Chris 'cfen' Fenwick shot Pmac's One over to me earlier today. I've heard a few other Pmac tracks, but One is that kinda track that really stands out. First 20 seconds of this video won me over. I appreciate when artists come across as 'real'. In this day and age, it's almost a rarity to see a rapper not act like a rapper, but rather, act like themselves. I grow tired of overly fabricated personas quickly. Pmac flips the norm. Show support for San Francisco's own and grab all Pmac's music.

Jasiri X - The George Bushes (Bomb the Throne) - Otis Freestyle

By now you probably know that Kanye's got his other other Benz, but Jasiri X is on some other other sh*t on this one. I dig it. Very political. He's kinda like a less angry Immortal Technique. Whatever political affiliation you identify with, I think we can agree in a bi-partisan manner that this is the best Otis freestyle yet.

The Weeknd - Thursday

Thursday is pretty good, yeah? Anyone else think Drake and The Weeknd should do an entire album together? I'm up waaaay too early working on a scholarly writing term paper, Thursday's making this process a little more tolerable though. If you're new to The Weeknd, make sure to check out all TheJourney's posts on him here. As an extra, below is Zone, The latest collabo between The Weeknd and Drake.

Jelani to create 'EP In a Day' live on TheJourney via Ustream

Well, this is pretty neat. Next Tuesday [August 23], Jelani will be teaming up with TheJourney for something that can only be described as unique. Jelani and his good friend and fellow emcee Wildabeast will be creating an entire EP in less than 24 hours. Say whaaa? Even cooler, the entire project will be presented live in real-time on TheJourney via UStream. Us, the fans, will get to sit in and watch the creative process in it's entirety as it happens live. Dope. Jelani and Wildabeast will write, record and mix the entire EP in front of our eyes. I already said dope, right? This will be the third installment in Jelani's EP In a Day series. Check out Jelani and Wildabeasts prior two EP's In a Day, BeastRoc & Thin Walls
A huge S/O to Jelani for giving TheJourney this opportunity. Seriously. Below is Drive It Like You Stole It, off Jelani and Wildabeasts last EP In a Day, Thin Walls. As an extra, check out Great Night, arguably my favorite Jelani track of all time. So good.

Jelani - Great Night

Mac Miller - Frick Park Market (Official Video)

As promised by Mr. McCormick earlier in the week, Frick Park Market finally went viral minutes ago. FPM's the first single off Mac Miller's highly anticipated album Blue Slide Park. Dude's livin the life right now.  Mac recently surpassed the 1 million mark on Facebook, and his Twitter accounts quickly following suit. Something makes me think this kid has little to no trouble with the ladies? Most of us are just Urkels, while the lucky few, like Mac, are Stefan status. For a lyrical breakdown of Frick Park Market, hit up the good people at RapGenius.

Oregon Ducks Scott Grady kills it on the board

                                                                     |@ 3:20, wow|

Is Scott Grady a professional skater, or an up-and-coming stud vying for a starting position on the Oregon Ducks football team? Definitely the latter, but this video solidifies that the former isn't that far off either. Scott Grady killed it on Friday nights at Tigard High, my former high school, and now the whole state of Oregon's psyched to see him come into his own over the next few years.

Hall of Fame inductee Arvydis Sabonis to be honored in Downtown Portland (Video)

Arvydis Sabonis [Sabas!] will be honored Today in Downtown Portland after being accepted in the Hall of Fame recently. One of the most fundamentally sound centers of all-time. When it came to dishing the rock, Sabas was a visionary in his own right. Greatest passing big man of all-time? A compelling argument could be made. I feel fortunate to have gotten to watch his game.

AWOLNATION - Sail

Mark Lucas, a buddy of mine from back in the days of high school, recently moved down here to San Diego. Last night, we were kickin it, and Mark [unknowingly] proceeded to make me feel like a giant n3wb. Not only did he 21-skunk me at NCAA 2012, he also introduced me to some dope sh*t that I've never even heard. How could I have missed out on AWOLNATION's Sail? It's so sick. On a side note, I really need to work on my stick-game. I get vulnerable in the pocket anytime a blitz comes my way. Bought to practice up tonight and wax that ass next time Mr. Lucas comes over.
