           I've had this Amy Winehouse cover saved to draft-status since late July, figured I'd finally get it posted before the New Year rolls through. My apologies on the late post Ms. Rodriguez, as everything you create is incredible.

I used to think jazz was about precise technique. When I heard her interpretations of old jazz standards everything changed. She opened my eyes to a world of music without rules. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't have found my medium. She said everything I wanted to say, the way I wished to say it, in language I related to. Her raw honesty provided a keyhole glimpse into her personality. Every song made me wish I had written it.

Facebook, Google, Twitter, Amazon, Aol, and others consider 'Nuclear Option' against SOPA

               On the heals of the announcement that Nintendo, Electronic Arts and Sony Electronics are dropping their support of SOPA, a coalition of 15 of the biggest time wasters websites in the world are considering a temporarily shut down of their services, replacing their homepage with a blacked out screen filled with literature regarding the substantial dangers of SOPA. Imagine the homepages of Google.com, Twitter.com, Facebook.com, and their Internet allies simultaneously turning black with anti-censorship warnings asking users to contact their local politicians about voting no on SOPA in the U.S. Congress. Crazy ish. And does that mean to 'update our statuses' we'd have to go outside and actually relay our thoughts to friends and fellow citizens? You know, like face-to-face conversations with people?                  I Thought this was pretty incredible when I first came across it earlier today. There's gotta be a Republican Candidate joke somewhere in this article... right? But seriously. Kanzi apparently watched the film Quest for Fire, "over and over hundreds of times" when he was very young, according to Dr. Savage-Rumbaugh, Kanzi's care taker. Kanzi can now start fires and cook consumable food. Pretty cool, yeah? Our ability to create fire marked a revolutionary milestone of sorts for our own species, facilitating healthier eating habits, increased brain size and advanced means of communication -- with word that Kanzi is teaching his son Teco to make fires as well; what we're witnessing could be nothing short of incredible. Well, this year has been a little rough on me, especially towards the end. A lot of things were stolen from me, and for awhile I was PISSED OFF! My laptop got stolen from me in the library at my school, my phone was taken from a table at my friend's house, and the worst of them all, our '1964 SS Impala was stolen from in front of my brother's house....on Thanksgiving night!!!

Christopher Hitchens, Author and Television Personality, Dies at 62

              I (like many people) owe Christopher Hitchens a huuuuuuge thank you. Dude opened my eyes to so many things. Hitchen's passed away yesterday, succumbing to esophagus cancer at the age of 62. The world lost an incredibly bright mind in a time and age when the darkness of ignorance and irrationality blatantly overshadows reason and intellect on a mainstream scale.

National Defense Authorization Act passes House, 283-136

               Assuming the Senate passes the NDAA (they already passed an initial version of the act 93-7), it'll be interesting to eventually hear the Supreme Court's take on the constitutionality behind the act, which passed last night in the House 283-136. Hopefully history proves me incorrect, but all indications point to President Obama being remembered as the first, and only president to enshrine indefinite detention without trial on U.S. soil. RIP due process..

              Daaaamn. Pitchfork continues on ending careers. A few weeks back you may have heard about Pitchfork giving Childish Gambino a measily 1.6 out of 10 for his efforts on Camp. Pretty harsh. I thought Camp was really dope. Then today, Pitchfork released it's ratings on Mac Miller's independent debut Blue Slide Park. Another recent hip-hop album I've come to really enjoy.              One of those rare covers that may just be better than the original. In the pursuit of full disclosure, I've probably listened to this track 75 times over the last 5 days. Recently, Micheal Bishop (of Supwitchugirl) put out this 9-track project covering some of your favorite songs. From Rihanna to Drake, The Killers to the Eli Yong Band, there's sure to be a little bit of something for everybody on this album.

Timeflies Tuesday: Big Ten

             So TheJourney's 2012 Freshmen Predictions enlistee took to their ongoing Timeflies Tuesday with a battle cry for Wisconsin Football. Hate to break it to Cal & Rob (of Timeflies), but The Oregon Ducks will come to play. It was pretty sick to see Timeflies get some love on Fox last Saturday during the Wisconsin v. Michigan State Big-10 Championship Game.
